Portable High-Res Lossless Music Player
The FiiO M21 sets a new benchmark for entry-level digital audio players. It has been designed on both the inside and out to provide class-leading performance and listening enjoyment.
Highlights appearing for the first time in this class of FiiO product include the new Snapdragon 680 processor, patented desktop mode, and quad Cirrus Logic DAC chips.
Purchases from Bay Bloor Radio include a 1-Year Warranty from FiiO Canada, with local repair/replacement without the need for international shipping.
A new entry-level benchmark
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 has superior performance with less power consumption than the SoCs used by players in the same class. It provides a smooth experience with Android 13, thanks to the 6 nanometer process technology used, which improves performance and lowers power consumption. Access to the Google Play store is included, allowing various apps to be installed.
Digital to analog
The four Cirrus Logic DAC chips allow for an eight-channel fully differential output design. This fully unleashes the potential of your headphones with class-defying dynamic performance and high anti-interference capabilities.
Powerful headphone amp
The headphone amplifier section adopts a two-stage circuit design. The first stage is responsible for voltage amplification, while the second stage handles current expansion, all ensuring purer sound with rich detail.
Patented desktop mode
Desktop Mode makes an appearance on an entry-level FiiO player for the first time in the M21. When Desktop Mode is enabled, the M21 is completely powered by an external power supply. The built-in battery is neither charged nor discharged, allowing you to use the player safely on the desktop without degrading its battery.
Outputs
- Headphone output: plug in your headphones via 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced connections. To ensure output quality, the two headphone ports do not output at the same time.
- Line output: the independent line amplification circuits allow you to connect to active speakers or external amplifiers, disabling the headphone amplifier.
- Digital SPDIF output: the low-jitter coaxial output has low jitter, achieving high performance when connected to an external high-end audio DAC.
- USB audio output: connect to an external DAC, and M21 instantly becomes your digital jukebox.
Two-way Bluetooth
Send music to M21 wirelessly, or connect your wireless headphones. This player features built-in two-way Bluetooth with codecs such as LDAC, aptX HD, aptX, AAC, and SBC.
Five operating modes
The M21 has 5 independent working modes:
- Android mode: just like a smartphone, but without the phone. The Android homescreen is available and third party apps may be launched after being installed through the Google Play store or third-party marketplaces.
- Pure Music mode: the player starts directly in FiiO Music as a pure music player for fast, direct, and stable operation without access to the Android homescreen.
- USB DAC mode: connect your USB audio device and enjoy the M21's precise digital-to-analog conversion.
- Bluetooth Receiving mode: Stream music to the M21 wirelessly, allowing you to access its superior headphone amplification to listen to music from external sources.
- AirPlay mode: Similar to Bluetooth, switch to this mode to stream music from iOS devices on the same network via the AirPlay protocol.
Storage
M21 features 64GB of built-in storage, about 52GB of which is available for use beyond Android system files. A single microSD card slot allows for storage expansion up to 2TB.
Build quality
The fully aluminum alloy body with an AG frosted glass back offers a delicate texture and comfortable grip. The screen features an oleophobic coating that significantly reduces fingerprints and smudges, making for smoother touch operation on the 4.7-inch HD screen. A customizable multi-function button allows instant access to your choice of operation.
Battery and charging
The M21's 4000mAh high-voltage battery provides a maximum of 15 hours of ultra-long battery life in single-ended mode. Battery life will vary based on use cases and operating conditions. This effortlessly provides the energy for extended listening sessions when commuting or traveling, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the world of music. It also supports 20W PD fast charging, enabling quick recharges even during short breaks.
Dual power supply modes
In portable mode, the M21 operates with standard voltage power supply. When using external power in Super High Gain mode, the player automatically switches to using a high-voltage power supply with 21Vpp (300 ohms) peak drive voltage and massive 950mW (32 ohms) output power. This delivers desktop-level power output, making the player work with an even wider variety of home headphones.
Digital and analog, separated
The digital and headphone amplifier sections exist in separate partitions, and each is equipped with independent shielding covers for isolation. This not only further reduces signal crosstalk but also enables efficient heat dissipation, delivering purer sound.
There are also separate power supply paths for digital and analog circuits, which effectively reduces crosstalk between the two. The result is more precise digital processing, purer analog output, and enhanced driving power. The analog circuit is further subdivided into multiple independent power supplies for components such as the DAC and headphone amplifier. This clean and robust power delivery enhances the dynamic range and leads to greater reproduction of details in your music.
5th-gen FPGA + dual custom femtosecond crystal oscillators
FiiO developed a custom crystal oscillator specifically for the M21. It has been carefully selected to meet the femtosecond-level standards, in order to ensure consistency and stability in its output. With a high-precision, low-jitter unified clock source, it accurately matches PCM and DSD audio at various sampling rates, ensuring precise reproduction of digital audio signals.
Hi-Fi parts for better sound
In the M21's audio circuit are high-precision thin-film resistors and low-temperature-drift capacitors that ensure refined and stable sound quality. Additionally, fine circuits such as the DAC and headphone amplifier are equipped with over 10 low-impedance, high-capacity tantalum capacitors. These provide abundant energy reserves and a robust power supply for more powerful, dynamic sound.
