Compact yet powerful woofer

The pure pulp fiber diaphragm is both lightweight and sturdy, and outputs rich sound. By adjusting the pulp material, ratio, and the proportion of long and short fibers, we made the diaphragm more rigid and fine-tuned the sound. The wooden fiber diaphragm has a thick and rich sound, with dense and lush vocals. Due to these advantages, it is no wonder that other well-known brands utilize this kind of driver in their speakers even now. Additionally, the 3.5-inch woofer is paired with a large 75mm flexible suspension, allowing it to achieve bass extension down to 65Hz.

 

Silky smooth tweeter

The SA1 uses a monitor-grade aluminum-magnesium diaphragm dome tweeter that provides with crisp, clear sound. It brings a uniquely enjoyable listening experience with plenty of detail.

Built-in phono preamp

The SA1 is equipped with a built-in phono preamp, designed with standard RIAA equalization in order to ensure faithful reproduction of sound from your vinyl records. When using a vinyl turntable without a built-in preamp (vinyl turntable only has PHONO OUT), you can switch the SA1 to the PHONO setting to use the internal SA1 phono preamp. If the vinyl turntable already has a built-in preamp, simply switch the input toggle to RCA IN.

 

Subwoofer out

Given popular demand, the SA1 has been equipped with an RCA subwoofer output. Use the SUB OUT connector to connect to an active subwoofer to form a 2.1 system, for better bass performance.

 

Texas Instruments digital amp

Being a desktop active speaker, the internal amplification is extremely important. The SA1 is equipped with two Texas Instruments TI TPA3118 Class D digital amplifiers. The main and auxiliary speakers each are driven in four ways, with woofer output power up to 20W*2 and tweeter output power up to 5W*2. The TPA 3118 has high conversion efficiency and features low noise, ensuring the purity of the audio signal. 

 

Active electronic two-way crossover

The SA1 is modelled after professional active speakers. The crossover point is set at 3.5kHz, which best suits the characteristics of the drivers, power supply, and circuitry — maximizing the SA1’s sound quality. The SA1 employs a two-way second-order active filter circuit to enhance the flexibility and control precision of the crossover. This crossover design effectively isolates each driver's signal from the others, leading to reduced intermodulation distortion, avoided driver overload, and significantly improved power efficiency. 

 

 

Remote control

SA1 includes a handheld infrared remote for easy adjustments. 

 

Onboard control

Two large physical knobs, one of which is adorned with RGB indicator lighting, and a large button on the right side of the main speaker make operating the SA1 faster and easier, particularly in desktop situations.

• Main knob: Turn clockwise to increase volume; turn counter-clockwise to decrease volume. Short press to switch between inputs.
• Bass knob: Turn clockwise to increase bass; turn counter-clockwise to attenuate bass. Ideal for quick adjustments as you listen.
• Power button: Long press to turn on; short press to turn off.

App control

The SA1 comes with eight sound presets and allows you to save up to three custom PEQ setups, all of which can be adjusted through the FIIO Control mobile app. In addition to the typical pop, jazz, classical, R&B, and dance sound presets, there is also a specially-tuned monitoring-style curve that compensates the frequency response curve to a flat line, allowing the SA1 to transform into studio monitor-like speakers.

 

Parametric EQ

The SA1, unlike most similar products, supports a 31-band high- precision lossless PEQ that can be used in all input modes. Through the FIIO Control app, you can fine-tune and calibrate the frequency response curve. For problems such as non-flat frequency response curves caused by complex room reverberation and standing waves, you can take control and optimize the sound thanks to the equalizer.

 

Auto standby and wake

If the SA1 does not detect any input for 20 minutes, it will enter the standby state. When doing so, the RGB light indicator will turn red and entirely turn off after 20 minutes of being in the standby state. When a signal input is detected, the device will automatically wake up and the RGB light indicator will return to the colour it was before entering the standby state. This power saving functionality may be disabled in the FiiO Control mobile companion app.

 

MDF cabinet

The SA1’s cabinet is made of high-density MDF with a thickness of up to 12mm. The top and sides of the cabinet adopt a 9mm thick imitation solid wood veneer, which can effectively reduce sound resonance for a purer and more natural sound. To simplify the frontal design of and to achieve better sound, the SA1 uses a rear guide tube design that allows for bass extension down to 65Hz, giving these compact speakers a surprising punch.
