AMP 20 is a remarkably powerful 12-channel amplifier, and can be paired with AV 20 for an elite, reference-level home theater system. AMP 20 is rated at 200 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 400 watts per channel into 4 ohms, and is built on Marantz exclusive HDAM and high-efficiency low-distortion Class D amplification.

Marantz has provided a rich assortment of connections and configuration options to make AMP 20 your ideal amplifier. While each of the 12 channels can operate independently, channel pairs can also be switched into bi-amp mode for isolating frequency bands from each other or switched into BTL mode to produce up to 400 watts per channel into 8 ohms for your highest output demands.

Gold-plated RCA and high-grade XLR connectors accept audio input from most surround processors. Custom Marantz SPKT-1+ binding posts are ergonomic and provide the best possible coupling to loudspeaker cables. Low-distortion, high-power output provides ample drive to virtually any loudspeaker configuration to maximize performance.

 

When paired with AV 20 via the included control cable, AMP 20 can be controlled using the preamplifier. When the power of the preamplifier is turned on or placed on standby, the power of this unit is turned on or placed on standby too, and when the brightness of the preamplifier’s display is adjusted, the same setting is applied to the illumination of the AMP 20.

 

 

Marantz HDAM-SA2

Typical amplifiers use typical parts. Exceptional amplifiers like AMP 20 use bespoke technologies to achieve ultimate performance. Marantz has further optimized our legendary HDAM-SA2 circuitry for use in all signal paths. HDAM-SA2’s high slew rate and low impedance maximize clarity, resolution, and tone.

 

Custom Class D

AMP 20 renders dynamics with lifelike impact and clarity thanks to custom Class D amplification. Channel pairs synchronize switching frequencies, heavy buss bars replace typical wiring harnesses for better current delivery, and custom curated ingredients elevate innovative engineering into the realm of rare excellence.

 

Isolated Power Supplies

The high-power and small-signal portions of AMP 20 have very different power supply needs. Marantz engineered a new clean and quiet linear power supply to shield the signals from each other to prevent interference and maintain Marantz warmth and detail. The new power supply features a custom toroidal transformer for the input section and small signals. The new design provides high-power output portions of the amplifier receive massive current on demand from a switch mode power supply.

 

Bi-Amp Mode
Many high-end loudspeakers can be driven by two amplifiers at once (known as bi-amping)—one for low frequencies and one for high frequencies. AMP 20 can pair channels into bi-amp mode to maximize performance from loudspeakers that benefit from this feature.
