R2R PRO Resistor Array DAC
An R2R ladder DAC employs a series of resistors with precise values arranged in a ladder configuration. Each step of the ladder corresponds to a bit in the digital signal, and the combination of these resistors translates the digital input into a corresponding analog voltage.
K17 R2R is the first FiiO product to feature the company's upgraded R2R PRO DAC design and implementation. Based on a segmented architecture, the upper 5 bits are decoded using 31 thermometer-coded resistors, solving the error accumulation issue found in traditional R2R designs and reducing distortion.
The result is a sound that captures everything people love about R2R: clear yet smooth, natural, warm, and endlessly enjoyable for long listening sessions.
Class AB Amplification
An important part of the K17 is a carefully crafted fully discrete amplifier circuit for headphones. This discrete circuit is of an OP+ transistor current amplification design, equipped with a classic pair of ON Semiconductor MJE243/253 transistors. It is capable of producing high current with low output impedance. The result is up to 4000mW+4000mW output power in balanced mode, nearly double that of the K9 Pro ESS. This allows it to easily drive various kinds of headphones and IEMs and to produce smooth, pleasant, and natural sound.
Specialty Chips for Signal Processing
The K17 R2R features an M21586Q DSP chip which is capable of double-precision 64-bit floating-point calculations and runs at a high 360MHz clock frequency. This chip is complemented by a high-performance ES9821Q ADC (analog to digital converter) as well as a specially customized ultra-low phase noise femtosecond crystal oscillator.
These three components allow the user, in all modes, to utilize the 31-band high-precision lossless parametric equalizer. This PEQ is designed to ensure the audio signal is still of high fidelity even after being processed. The chip also allows for robust output protection functionality, ensuring that headphones and other connected audio equipment are fully protected.
Do you find manually adjusting 31 bands too complicated? AUTO EQ automatically matches your headphones’ target curve, instantly unlocking your ideal profile with a single click while preserving lossless audio quality. Built-in presets for Pop, Jazz, and Classical are also included, along with complete freedom to fine-tune every band individually.
Fully balanced design
From the DAC to the I/V conversion, to the low-pass filtering, and to headphone amp, the entire audio circuit is of a fully differential circuit architecture design. This ensures both high dynamic ranges of the signals as well as significantly reduced crosstalk. Various parts of the audio circuit, including the I/V conversion and LPF stages, use multiple low-noise precision operational amplifiers OPA1612 to ensure dynamic audio output.
Precisely restored audio
Two industry-leading ACCUSILICON AS318-L ultra-low phase-noise femtosecond crystal oscillators (45.1584 MHz and 49.1520 MHz) work together with a customized FiiO 12 MHz femtosecond oscillator. This configuration significantly reduces the impact of phase noise, allowing audio signals at every sampling rate to be faithfully restored, delivering purer and more consistent sound.

Inputs and outputs
With fully comprehensive inputs and outputs, the FiiO K17 R2R can cater to more audio setups.
It features eight input modes:
- USB decoding: the XMOS 16-core XU316 enables decoding up to 768kHz/32bit, DSD512, and MQA full decoding. There is a USB-C port on both the front and rear of K1 for convenient access; the front port takes priority when both are connected.
- Streaming media receiver: connect via Wi-Fi or Ethernet and enjoy streaming media through Roon Ready or AirPlay.
- Bluetooth input: the Qualcomm QCC5125 enables support for aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, LDAC, and more codecs.
- Optical input: capable of receiving digital optical input, for use as an optical decoder.
- Coaxial input: capable of receiving digital coaxial input, for use as an coaxial decoder.
- RCA input: receive a single-ended analog signal to be amplified by the K17, ideal for use with a turntable and phono preamplifier.
- XLR input: receive a balanced analog signal to be amplified by the K17.
- Local playback: supports external USB flash drives and portable hard drives that store your private music collection. The maximum output current of the USB-A port is 500mA, which is suitable for connecting to a USB flash drive; if you need to connect to a mobile hard disk drive, please use an extra power supply to power it.
On the output side, there's 6.35mm single-ended, 4.4mm balanced, and 4-pin XLR balanced jacks to drive all of your headphones. All are located on the front of the K17 for convenient ergonomics. On the rear, you'll find both 3-pin XLR balanced and RCA unbalanced line outputs for interfacing with a variety of active speakers and external amplifiers, plus digital optical and coaxial outputs.
Switch between four output modes: PO+Pre Out to use both headphones and rear audio out simultaneously, PO for headphone output via the front panel 6.3mm, 4.4mmm and XLR ports, PRE for pre-out with adjustable volume via the rear connectors, and LO for line out with fixed volume via the rear connectors.
Streaming via Roon Ready, AirPlay, NAS Server
The Ethernet port supports up to Gigabit speeds for fast and stable data transmission. The AP6256 Wi-Fi module supports 2.4G and 5G wireless networks as an alternative method of transmitting lossless audio. The newly-added NAS server playback feature brings your home music library directly into the system, supporting NFS and SMB protocols with instant access through the FIIO Control app.
Bluetooth connectivity
With the QCC5125 Bluetooth chip, the K17 R2R supports LDAC, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, and other enhanced Bluetooth codecs. This ensures high-quality, lower-latency Bluetooth audio for various applications, from music listening to video gaming.
Remote
A custom aluminum infrared remote control is included with K17 R2R, allowing you to conveniently switch between operating modes , select EQ, adjust volume, and operate other functions from a distance.
Retro-Inspired Modern Design with Wood
The industrial design of K17 cleverly blends square and round shapes into a harmonious whole, combining retro hi-fi elegance with a modern technological aura.
The side panels have been completely redesigned for the K17 R2R, now crafted from carefully selected natural wood imported from North America. Choose the silver chassis with ash wood for a refined, clean, and quietly elegant appearance, or the black chassis with walnut for a deeper and more reserved sophistication. The natural grain of solid wood and the precision of metal craftsmanship create a perfect contrast. Since every grain pattern is uniquely created by nature, the appearance of the actual product may vary.
There is thoughtful consideration in both functionality and design; examples include the multiple knobs for easier instant control, and a grid structure for faster heat dissipation.
Touchscreen + Knobs
With its larger colour screen than similar products, the display is clear and easy to read. Interacting with the device directly is intuitive, so that it is quick and easy to handle various operations right out of the box. For the fastest direct operation, 5 control knobs allow for quick tactile control of volume, gain, and settings.
Physically separated boards
The various sections of the internal power supply, digital, and analogue sections are all located on physically separated circuit boards to avoid interference between them. This ensures the accuracy and integrity of signal processing for purer, cleaner audio output.
Precision power supply
Powering the K17 R2R is a custom high-quality low-noise transformer, ensuring the purity of the power supplied. Additionally, five 4700μF electrolytic capacitors provide ample power reserves to ensure a steady supply of power.
Separate power supplies for the digital and analogue circuits effectively avoid crosstalk and interference between them. The K17 R2R’s analogue audio circuit is powered by a multi-stage power supply. Many of the stages have a dedicated power control circuit, including those for the digital-to-analogue conversion, LPF, and transistor. Low-noise, high-power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) TPA7A47/7A33 LDO regulators also act as secondary voltage regulators to continuously provide stable and clean power.
