Final DX4000 CL

Closed-Back Wired Headphones

The DX4000CL refines Final's core headphone philosophy with a sound that is natural, balanced and richly textured, while introducing a more open and resolving presentation.

Closed-Back, Without Compromise

With the DX series, Final set out to challenge the limitations traditionally associated with closed-back headphones. Rather than embracing the heavy low-end emphasis and confined staging often found in the category, Final’s approach centres on balance, control and spatial realism.

The DX4000CL continues this direction, carefully eliminating the low-frequency rumble commonly associated with closed-back designs. The result is a cleaner, clearer presentation with exceptional control across the entire frequency range. Bass is articulate and disciplined, supporting the music without overshadowing it.

Its overall balance is neutral and refined, allowing recordings to unfold naturally. Vocals are rendered with lifelike presence, instruments carry convincing body and texture, and fine nuances are reproduced with clarity. By taking a more open and resolving approach, the DX4000CL reveals subtle micro-detail and dynamic expression while maintaining the coherence and musicality that define the DX range. The sense of space is expansive and immersive, offering an unexpectedly open soundstage from a closed-back construction.

Dynamic Driver

At the core of the DX4000CL is a newly developed dynamic driver, engineered to achieve precise diaphragm movement and optimised airflow control within the housing. This careful driver design ensures accurate low-frequency reproduction and contributes to the headphone’s highly resolving character.

This driver uses a special material for the diaphragm, which is made by adding carbon to Japanese paper to increase its strength. Furthermore, Final has adopted a "free edge structure" with no grooves on the edges so that the diaphragm can operate smoothly.

In addition, the front plate that secures the driver is made of a special glass-reinforced resin that is lightweight and highly rigid. These technologies have resulted in a driver unit with low distortion.

Internal Acoustic Structure

The internal acoustic structure has been meticulously tuned to suppress unwanted resonance, preserving clarity and ensuring that complex passages remain composed and well separated. This refined engineering underpins the DX4000CL’s richly textured presentation and its ability to maintain neutrality without sacrificing emotional engagement.

The space behind the driver is equipped Final's proprietary Rear Diffuser Array Structure technology. By arranging fine diffusion plates with varying shapes and spacing, Final's engineering team has avoided creating parallel surfaces inside the earcups. This diffuses sound reflections and effectively suppresses unnecessary resonance inside the housing.

External Design

The newly developed ear pads, which are 30mm thick and made of synthetic leather and memory foam, not only provide a good closed-back seal, but also provide excellent comfort. Ear pads can be replaced without tools.

In addition, the metal that connects the headband and housing is made of ultra-super duralumin, a lightweight, high-strength aluminum-copper alloy that is age-hardened for maximum durability.

The surface of the headphone has a textured finish, designed to avoid fingerprints while evoking what is typically found on a high-end DSLR camera.

Cable

To complement the headphone’s resolving performance, Final includes a silver-coated cable as standard. Designed to enhance signal transmission, the cable allows fine details to emerge with greater clarity and texture, further reinforcing the sense of an open soundstage and elevating overall transparency.

This 2 meter long cable features a 4.4mm balanced termination. A 4.4mm to 6.3mm conversion adapter is included in the box.
