DYNAMIC DIGITAL HEADROOM

NAD’s Dynamic Digital Headroom (DDH) circuit eliminates distortion caused by inter-sample clipping, a digital artifact that can occur with certain CDs mastered at high levels. By restoring headroom in the digital domain, DDH allows transients like drum hits, brass stabs, and dynamic vocal peaks to come through with greater clarity and impact. This results in playback that sounds cleaner, more open, and more engaging, particularly on recordings that might otherwise feel compressed or harsh. DDH helps the C 589 reveal more of what’s on the disc, just as it was meant to be heard.

HIGH-PERFORMANCE DAC IMPLEMENTATION

At the final stage of the signal path, the C 589’s digital-to-analogue conversion preserves musical detail and clarity. Built around a top-tier design from ESS, the DAC delivers low noise, low distortion, and excellent dynamic range. NAD’s circuit design ensures clean, accurate playback that reveals subtle textures and tonal nuance across every disc.

QRONO d2a

To further enhance the performance of the DAC, the C 589 uses a new filtering approach called QRONO d2a, developed by MQA Labs and implemented by NAD. Instead of relying on conventional digital filters, QRONO applies a more precise time-domain solution to preserve critical timing information in the audio signal. The result is improved clarity, sharper imaging, and a more natural musical flow, especially on recordings rich in acoustic detail and spatial nuance. With QRONO, CD playback sounds smoother, more precise, and more lifelike.

PRECISION CD LOADER AND TRANSPORT

The C 589 features a premium disc loader and precision transport mechanism for smooth, reliable operation. The loader delivers a clean, responsive action, while the mechanism includes a precision laser pick-up that ensures accurate tracking across a wide range of compact discs. These components work together to maintain signal integrity and reduce read errors, helping preserve sound quality throughout playback. For listeners who rely on CDs as a primary source, this level of build quality ensures consistent performance and long-term reliability.

FLEXIBLE OUTPUT OPTIONS

The C 589 offers a range of output options to support both analogue and digital hi-fi systems. Stereo RCA and XLR balanced outputs provide clean analogue signals for use with integrated amplifiers and preamps, with the balanced path offering even lower noise and distortion. On the digital side, coaxial, optical, and XLR AES/EBU outputs are available, allowing connection to a wide range of external DACs and processors. The AES/EBU output ensures exceptionally low jitter, making it ideal for high-end digital systems. This flexibility makes the C 589 easy to integrate into virtually any high-performance audio setup.
